The First Step...

If you are looking for counselling or psychotherapy and don't know where to begin, then perhaps I can help. Embarking on this journey can be daunting for some and it's natural to feel a little anxious even before your first session. For this reason, I am happy to speak to anyone, free of charge, about counselling, how it works and in particular how I work with clients. That way you can get a sense of what it is and start to prepare for your own personal journey. I often work with individuals who are in emotional pain and want to make changes but don't know how. This is where counselling can help.

What is counselling? Talking? Listening? Advice?

There are as many different answers to this as there are counsellors. I frequently say that counselling is like the moment following a haircut when a mirror is placed behind you to see your hair at the back. In this way you get a view of yourself that is difficult to see in the 'here and now'. A counsellor can be this mirror, altering the angle from time to time so that you develop a greater sense of awareness about where you are and what keeps you there.

Counselling assists this process by helping the client to:

  • feel safe in a confidential space
  • be heard without judgement,
  • become more self aware,
  • feel empowered to take more risks
  • be able to heal and move forward positively.
Operating in the real world, we can't all escape to the mountains to meditate our paths through life. We can however, bring awareness, integrity and authenticity into who and how we are and in doing so find alignment with our true nature, together with a sense of peace and purpose.
